Our Mission Statement

Students will learn to master themselves through the practice of karate.  This will include not only the acquisition of physical skills, but also self-discipline honed through focused training.  The goal of UMAC training is to develop the talents of all students and to instill in them the desire to be the best martial artist possible, while not sacrificing the high degree of respect and humbleness expected within the martial arts.  Furthermore, UMAC promotes karate as self-defense, not aggression.  This is based upon the traditional “Dojo Kun” or code, which states that the true martial artist should:

  • Seek perfection of character, in training the mind and spirit;
  • Be faithful, to oneself, as well as the Sensei and other teachers;
  • Endeavor, to always do one’s best;
  • Respect others, as well as strive to be respected;
  • Refrain from violent behavior, for the practice of karate is to defend, not to be the aggressor.

Director, founder, and Chief instructor of Universal Martial Arts Centers

Shihan Rick Duffy

Shihan Rick Duffy began his training in the martial arts at the age of 12. He trained for a period of 2 years until his family moved too far to commute to and from the studio. He returned to his training at the age of 22. He currently holds the rank of 6th dan. (degree)and strives daily to perfect his skills and training at Universal Martial Arts Centers.

Universal Martial Arts Centers has been serving the community of Rancho Cucamonga and the surrounding area since 1992. The atmosphere at UMAC is one of harmony and respect. Students are taught that the best way to gain respect is to first give respect.

In the adult classes, we focus on practical, effective self defense, combined with the history of our roots in the martial arts. This type of training establishes a higher sense of self-confidence, and the ability to stand courageously for one's beliefs, and values, while having fun at the same time. We promote a safe, fun, enthusiastic, and family oriented environment.
